Before the fall of the Iron Curtain, due to the country’s prominent position as the founder and one of the leaders of the Non-Aligned Movement, Yugoslav People's Army was considered the fourth strongest military force in Europe. At its peak, it had more than 200.000 active personnel under the leadership of Commander-in-Chief Josip Broz Tito.

After the fall of the Iron curtain, the breakup of Yugoslavia was followed by an atrocious civil war, after which the remnants of military bases were pillaged for weapons and military equipment. The black market was booming, and amongst the most sought after booty was a precious brown book. A book that kept the army in perfect condition, strong and healthy. Yugoslav People's Army Cookbook.

The importance of military sustenance was already recognized twenty five centuries ago when a Chinese general and military strategist Sun Tzu in his The Art of War noted that “when an army feeds its horses with grain and kills its cattle for food, and when the men do not hang their cooking-pots over the camp-fires, showing that they will not return to their tents, you may know that they are determined to fight to the death“.

Army Cookbook features the majority of those recipes, well over a hundred, translated into English. For the first time in history, the whole world has the opportunity to test the dishes that were kept guarded like a top military secret. The dishes are categorized for an optimally balanced nutrition, aimed at healthy young males at the peak of their strengths. After all, an army does not want its soldiers to be skinny or chubby, lacking any of the micro- or macronutrients.

Each recipe in the app is followed by a detailed table of nutritional values expressed both in quantities per serving and as a percentage of Recommended Daily Average (RDA). Some of the recipes come with tips and tricks collected over the decades of use, and many others come with serving and combining suggestions.

If you’re not sure how much ingredients you need to get for a recipe – the app makes it easy – simply enter the number of servings and a neat shopping list will be generated. If you have some of the ingredients at home, mark them before going to the shop to avoid excess buying and food waste.

Minimalistic military design make is intuitive and easy to use, even for people that have never been to the army. In fact, it is aimed at families to improve their daily diets and make a cooking experience more fun. If you find a recipe that you really like, you can share it whole via the social networks.
